The Habitat Hillside
What began as a steep, weedy slope plagued by erosion and difficult access has been transformed into a resilient California-native habitat.
The design works with the natural contours of the hillside, using thoughtfully placed paths, planting, and erosion-control strategies to make the space more accessible while protecting the soil. Native plants create layers of habitat for birds, pollinators, and other wildlife while bringing seasonal color, texture, and beauty to a once-overlooked space.
The result is a landscape that feels wild and natural, yet intentional—a reminder that even challenging slopes can become thriving ecosystems.
